About Southern Oaks Baptist Church

Who Are We?

We are carpenters, professors, businessmen, housewives, home educators, seminary graduates, students, fathers, mothers and children who have a common mission. To serve God in three specific areas:

  • Worship of God…
  • Nurture of Believers…
  • Care for others…

Worship

While today’s focus is upon man, worship is about man’s Creator. God deserves to be first in each life because He is worthy. Consequently, a worshiping relationship with God is of highest priority. Only after God has worked in a person’s life can there be a genuine response of worship. Before we can worship, God must reveal Himself to man—and God has revealed Himself through creation, in the Bible, and in the person of Jesus Christ, the perfect God-man.

The lack of worship has always had the same root problem—the lack of worshipers. While most people set their life upon the making of money, obtaining a position or reputation, or to simply getting by, humans are negligent in giving their first and best love to God. Sadly, much the same can be said of today’s churches.

Southern Oaks knows worship is a priceless time with God in daily living and especially when we gather together. God has provided us with a structure that is conducive to the worship of Himself. But more importantly, God has entered our souls and has made us His adoring children who long to grow in fellowship with Him. Because our Father loved us before we loved Him, we also desire to include you in your pursuit of knowing and loving the Lord. It would be such a privilege to have you visit our traditional services.

…true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; forsuch people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
John 4:23b (NASB)

Nurture of Believers

Nurture means to feed, to nourish, to rear, to promote the growth and development of. Every person who has been given God’s life through trust in Christ’s death on the cross has begun a process of becoming more like Him. Southern Oaks is committed to providing special seminars, training events, and ministry to help spiritual maturity take place.

God’s Word, like milk, will produce healthy growth. Just as milk must be drunk regularly for growth, so each Christian needs to daily feed on the Bible. Sunday morning Bible study and pulpit teaching for all ages help make the Bible practical. Sunday worship and the Wednesday prayer service not only help us all learn how to pray but also help us know the personal God who hears and answers prayer. While group ministry is important, even more helpful could be individual attention. If you sense the need for personal discipleship, tailored to your specific needs, we can help.

The family is the foundation of a healthy church, community, and country. We support the family unit of a man married to his wife and the children God has placed under their care. Southern Oaks is striving to be a place where men learn how to love their wives sacrificially and lead their families appropriately. Through mutual love and respect, parents can be equipped to train up children who respect authority, obey their parents, and love God.

. . .grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18 (NASB)

Care for Others

All of us at Southern Oaks were at one time without Christ and the forgiveness of our sins. Our joyful salvation motivates us to share Jesus with those around us. A second reason we care for others is because Jesus Christ commanded us to take the good news of salvation to those near and far. Because death without Christ plunges a person into a torment without end, we express care by going and giving to evangelism and missions. Also, because we have received comfort from others when we were in need, we want to comfort those who are in any affliction.

We understand that all people, at one time or another, may have to deal with emotional stress, failure, depression, job loss, old age, cancer, tragedy, accidents, divorce, death of loved ones, substance abuse, or debilitating illness. The only lasting comfort originates from a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. Without Him, comfort at best is temporary. Because many of life’s tribulations are long-term, we want to faithfully come alongside and love hurting people.

Southern Oaks Baptist Church is seeking to be a place where people find comfort for their problems and answers to their questions. Salvation, by the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, is the first step. We want to be a place where people take that first step and continue growing in their Christian life. We want to personally know and care for those God draws to us.

Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
Matthew 7:7 (NASB)
